New “Joomla! Picasa” and “Joomla! Flickr”

Hello people,

a couple of years ago I wrote a beta version of the two Joomla! components “Joomla! Picasa” and “Joomla! Flickr”. In the past two years, the two packages have been downloaded and tried more than 70.000 times, generating lot of interest and discussions, even in their early stage of development.

I’m now going to completely rewrite them, to keep them competitive in the growing market of Joomla! extensions. The two components are obviously going to be completely free and open source.

Before I start developing again, I’d like you all to discuss with me the features that you would like to be implemented and what you DON’T want to be included in the packages. I will then start two fresh open source projects for them and all contribution will be welcome.

Ready for a new version of the two photogallery? Start proposing, adding comments to this post, then…

  1. Hi,

Are you planning to integrate access to private pictures in Flickr ? That would be a great feature.

    Thanks for the great job,

    Sokha

  5. What would be absolutely my greatest whish is to be able to show my picasa albums in a flickr-like style. that is to say with a possibility to autoplay but also to pause a slideshow, running the list of thumbs below (or on the side). this than should be combined with a automatic retreival of new albums from picasa at a nice album overview page to be connected to a menu item. preferably with the option to include the album descriptions. I will keep an eye on this and hope you will start developing soon! Thanks in advance.

  9. with sort i was meening that shows only those pictures or albums what are with this tag

  10. I’ll be very happy if the new rewritten version is 100% joomla 1.5.

There was no other component that did exactly what I wanted!

  12. Would love to have a component/plugin/module. Where an album could be linked to by the album thumbnail, but open up all images in view window

  13. I am searching for a plugin that displays Picasa gallery in a good way. I haven’t found one in the web. That would be great if this gallery could do that.

  14. Can you make it have the ability to only show albums of a certain date. I’ve got a ton of albums and having the ability to show albums only of a certain date would be very nice. Hate digging through all of them.

  18. Bravo Roberto! hai fatto un ottimo componente, tanti ti ringrazieranno me compreso.

Hai mai pensato di adattarlo alla gallery-menalto tramite l’importazione dei feed che offre la menalto?

Qui una demo Joomla-1.5+MenaltoGallery ma purtroppo non ci sono i feed in bella vista.

  19. Hello,

my suggestion is that the user of your plugin can fully show there account of Flickr in there Joomla! site. No extension can do this at the time!

For example you have collections and sets.
In your flickr profile you can see only the collections and if you click a collection you can see the sets that are in that collection.
It would be great if you see the same structure in your joomla site!!!
If you can do that you can enjoy the simplisity of Flickr and a gallery that takes the hierarchy.
I’m looking forward to see if you can manage this!
    Hopefuly you can do this!

My second suggestion is that you make it possible for members at the FRONTEND to upload directly to Flickr.
So at the frontend you are able to make a new set / collection, place the set in the right collection and upload (multiple) photos (JAVA upload).

    Looking forward..

    • I’m not sure about the usefulness of what you’re proposing. The Joomla Flickr component should represent a front-end for pictures hosted in Flickr. Honestly, I don’t see the point of re-inventing the wheel, by providing the final user the same functionalities that he could achieve by logging in into Flickr and by using the built-in administration panel. Or am I missing something?

      Posted by prof3ta | January 16, 2010, 5:03 pm
      • it would just be a nice feature I think because you users don’t have to leave your site then.
But what do you think about my first suggestion? That is the one that is interesting for me.
I have a lot of sets organised in collections and it would be great if that would be at my site in the same collections..

        Posted by Chiro | January 16, 2010, 5:07 pm
      • Support for collections and sets is already planned.

  20. I have tried your newest joomla! flickr and if i press the Joomla Flickr link in by components, i don’t see the whole welcome text like in your Youtube movie. All i see is: Jf_welcome.
    Can someone help me?

  21. I tried to install the joomla flickr component. The installation is succesful but when I click in the component menu on joomla Flickr I get Jf_welcome instead of the welcome text like in the Youtube movie

  23. btw: this is the dutch (nederlands) translation.

And another thing I want to know: is there multiple users support in your Joomla! Picasa component?

    Posted by Chiro | January 16, 2010, 6:06 pm
  24. Can you tell me how to translate your component joomla-picasa?

    Posted by jeh1eip | January 16, 2010, 7:49 pm
  25. JP2_WELCOME=Welkom, dit is Joomla Picasa 2
    JP2_ALBUMS_PRESENT=albums zijn aanwezig voor
    JP2_ALBUM_CONTAINS=Het album bevatJP2_PHOTOS=foto’s
    JP2_PAGE=Pagina

    here you go.

    btw I get this error

  26. Ok the error is gone.. (Can you delete the error please?)

    Posted by jeh1eip | January 16, 2010, 9:27 pm
  27. The only things that I would suggest is (For Joomla Picasa):
    1) It takes some time to load te pages so maybe you can try to fast this up?
    2) When you are in the lightbox I think it would be better if it showed all the pictures in the set right away. So if the set contains 150 photos and you show only 20 photos then the lightbox shows the 150 photos.
    3) The ability to choose that ALL the pictures are displayed in 1 page
    4) costum text / language: Make the user able to choose whether to show text or not and where te text should be.

    BUT NICE WORK !

  28. mi piacerebbe un componente simile ma che leggesse da qualsiasi Feed, RSS o XML

  29. Hi,

it will be great if the comments of flickr are displayed too. Or make comments with JComments und the Picture or in the categories.

    greetings

  30. come posso rimuovere il titolo

    (Welcome to Joomla Picasa 2)

  31. This is an excellent component.

The only thing I would make as a suggestion is to add the capability to display the caption of each photo (if I am not blind to this function already XD).

    Thanks so much!

  33. Hey Roberto, stop messing around a write these components already. We’ve given you enough ideas. Hurry up and do it already.

    • Contributions are more than welcome, since the components are free of charge. Or do you want to pay me to develop these components for you? If you do, I’ll be very happy in hurrying up, otherwise I’m really sorry but I’ll take my time.

  34. Please allow showing of Picasa HIDDEN albums.
They are reachable via RSS feed provided by picasa, so if you know RSS feed you can publish them to public.
Hidden is useful because you have many albums, some you want to share, but you don’t want random public users to see all your shared albums in one place.

Moocasa plugin for joomla does this already but cannot do albums

E magari senza i file .DS_Store :).

Comunque hai fatto davvero un ottimo lavoro, complimenti ancora!

  36. 1. Is there a way to customize the message “Welcome to Picassa Joomla 2″
    2. Is there a way to store password and view private albums too ?

  37. I have a dream… having my Picasa tag names embed and visibles in my Joomla site :-)

    Posted by d'aïeux et d'ailleurs | May 9, 2010, 4:47 pm
  38. Cool!

I’d like to be able to do what ever I can in PICASA WEBONLINE (like TAG NAMES, etc) from within my Joomla site.

This will allow for visitors to my site to ALSO TAG and COMMENT PHOTOS, all of which is saved right on the PICASA SERVER..

Perhaps a very elegant wrap of sorts?

    Thank you!

    Posted by Mark | May 27, 2010, 10:03 pm
  39. 1. integrate flickr & picasa accounts in just one component
    2. Support SEF urls (sh404sef)
    3. flickr album cover
    4. allow comments on the photos and saved on the service server (flickr or picasa)

  40. Attempted to use 103 and 104 install packages, reverted to ‘tip’ pkg, unable to manage under components, results are:
    Jf_welcome
    Jf_instructions
    •Jf_instructions2
    •Jf_instructions3
    •Jf_instructions4
    •Jf_instructions5
    •Jf_instructions6
    •Jf_instructions7

  41. A few good ideas would be to have the following options:
1: Picasa View (Shows all public galleries on Picasa account)
2: Gallery View (Links to a specific gallery on Picasa)
3: Upload (Allow certain users to upload photos to the Picasa Albums Via Joomla)

Another ideal would be simplified use of the component, I still can’t get the component to access my Picasa album.
